The MFG rating of a typical power resistor in a TO-220 is 1500V. This is the breakdown
between the resistive element and the heat sink or any mounting parts and case, not
the limiting element voltage of the resistor.
If we look at this as a 3 terminal device, where one terminal is the breakdown (gap) could
I not double the breakdown when using 2 resistors or more on a floating heat sink as long
as the potential difference across the string doesn't exceed the individual breakdown ?
Ignoring max V across 2 equal resistors the gaps should be in series, will this double overall case
to case max difference if heat sink tabs are connected ?
