Diagnostics - Index of messages, error codes, and beeps - PC
**broken link removed**

Diagnostics - Index of messages, error codes, and beeps - NetVista 6269, 6578, 6579
Applicable countries and regions

The Symptom-to-FRU index lists error symptoms and possible causes. The most likely cause is listed first. Always begin with "General checkout" on page 104. See "IBM PC Enhanced Diagnostics error codes" on page 1 when running diagnostics. This index can also be used to help you decide which FRUs to have available when servicing a computer. If you are unable to correct the problem using this index, go to "Undetermined problems" on page 165.

NOTES:

* If you have both an error message and an incorrect audio response, diagnose the error message first.
* If you cannot run the diagnostic tests or you get a diagnostic error code when running a test, but did receive a POST error message, diagnose the POST error message first.
* If you did not receive any error message, look for a description of your error symptoms in the first part of this index.
* Check all power supply voltages before you replace the system board. (See "Power supply" on page 108.)
* Check the hard disk drive jumper settings before you replace a hard disk drive. (See "Hard disk drive jumper settings" on page 126.)

IMPORTANT:

1. Some errors are indicated with a series of beep codes. (See "Beep symptoms" on page 145.)
Type 6568/6569 computers default to come up quiet (no beep and no memory count and checkpoint code display) when no errors are detected by POST. To enable Beep and memory count and checkpoint code display when a successful POST occurs, do the following:
2.
* Enable Power on Status in setup. (See "Setup Utility program" on page 119.)

3. The processor is a separate FRU from the system board; the processor is not included with the system board FRU.

Beep symptoms
Beep symptoms are short tones or a series of short tones separated by pauses (intervals without sound). See the following examples.
Beeps Description
1-2-X

* One beep
* A pause (or break)
* Two beeps
* A pause (or break)
* Any number of breaks
