Hello,

Possibly I'm going to sell a project to a company. I've never sold a design and I know you have to meet several standards in order to sell the product in the European market.

So far I have only designed the functional part, but I totally neglected the protections and EMC rules. Somebody can you suggest how I can make a really robust design? Exist some manual with the elementary rules?

For example:
- I connect the GND signal to the outer metal casing? is important isolate the electronics?
- An RS485 port must protect against overload / overvoltage?
- Resettable fuses are recommended?
- How I can minimize the ESD?
- What standards I must apply to my designs?
- ...

Thanks!

It might help to tell more about what industry this product is for... ESD requirements, EMI/RFI requirements, etc can vary by industry and product... Your ESD statement is confusing, by the way. What do you mean, minimize ESD? Do you mean minimize the possibility of damage to your product? You might need to be more specific about what connections your product has to the outside world (sounds like an RS485 port?), etc...
