How does one choose the switching frequency if say I'm designing a step-up dc-dc converter?

thank you in advance:D

higher frequency -> less energy storage -> smaller inductor and capacitor
higher frequency -> faster response
higher frequency -> easier filteríng of input and output ripple
lower frequency -> less switching losses
lower frequency -> easier design
lower frequency -> cheaper semiconductor devices

Negetive points
Higher frequency -- More switching loses & critical PCB layout.
Higher frequency -- EMI on higher harmonics
Higher Frequency -- Additional circuits required to reduce the switching loses & improve the efficiency.

And all other points as rightly said by our friend "FvM"

Positive points
Higher Frequency -- compact & light weight design
Higher Frequency -- Smaller magnetics.
