These kind of questions always make me ask more question sorry in advance. I assume that the positive 180VDC you are starting with has a hard reference you can not change. Otherwise just make the positive side of this voltage referenced to gnd and there you go a negative voltage at 180Vdc. If this is not an option then.....How much current do you need? What kind of regulation does the -180VDC need to be within. What kind of efficiency do you require. What other voltage or power sources are availible. Line voltage ?
If you do not need isolation, you can try an inverting regulator. It works like a boost, but the voltage is negative. It is sometimes referred to as a buck-boost, although I personally do not agree with the name.
If you need isolation, then a flyback is the way to go. The output can then be of either polarity, depending on how you connect the output.
to dfullmer: I need a power source. I have a positive power source and I need a negative power source. But I am not good at power conversion. So Could you give me more detail about it.
I been a bit busy, VVV is correct about the buck boost and the flyback. The files are a few circuit configurations that may help you decide. The link to the book is one that may help with the rest of the construction once you make the decision.
