Description of BSS and VAS engineer job

BSS Engineer

Hello there, i'm thinking of changing job now and a nice job i ve got now is a BSS engineer but i dont know much about this kind of job. I contacted them and they told me that it's all about GSM, they offer training for the right canditate on Alcatel products etc... Where can i find detailed descriptions for BSS and VAS engineers? They told me that its a very responsible possition cause you ve got to monitor the network ,you re behind a monitor 8 or more hours...
Any resource that can help?

Thanx. Your links helped me a lot.
Especially "The ability to work extraordinary hours as needed is a MUST, i.e. nights , weekends and holidays. Perform on call duties on a rotational basis." One last question : They pay 900-1000 Euro in my country. For the responsibilities , and work hours... do you think that it worth it?

Depend in what country you are. For example in US/Canada 1000$/month means nothing. In Western Europe is almost the same.
But for an Eastern European country is not so bad. Probably the same for some Asian countries.
For a BSS Engineer to work shift-hours is something normal.
