I need to design a current source rated 1Amp for a battery charger i'm doing, i need to know what would be the best one, a simple wilson, a widlar, mos, bjt or something else altogether?
Should i use simple transistors or a transistor array and which ones u recommend?
It's for driving Dallas/Maxim Ds2711 circuit battery charger.
Datasheet is here: **broken link removed**
I don't think you need another external 1A constant current source to drive this circuit.
As you can see from, for example, Fig.3 (data sheet) by selecting 0.125Ω current setting resistor the current in this circuit is set to 1A, so what you need is a voltage source of, say, 6-8V dc capable of delivering current >1A.
This circuit by itself is a programmed current regulator, so no second stage current regulation is required.
