cpld vs fpga

Dear Comunity:

I have doubts about the potential of using CPLD and FPGA devices. Which is better in:

1.- Speed.
2.- Flexibility for implementing different architectures (uc, dsp, etc)
3.- Density

And also for what was CPLD & FPGA created for? I mean For which desing is better use CPLD or FPGA?, many thanks.
