ModelSim designer is not for synthesis.
For FPGA synthesis, the best choices are Synplicity Synplify, Mentor LeonardoSpectrum or Precision and Synopsys DC-FPGA. The FPGA vendor tools from Xilinx, Altera, Lattice and Actel work well of course but the other EDA tools are faster and typically produce a more optimized netlist.

if uwant to synthesize for FPGA xilinx (project navigator or webpack) ise series are the ideal and moreover they are easily available.

but if u want to do for asic , then cadence, synopsys or magma are the only choice but are costly and not available as easily as xilinx.and u also need the specific libraries.

What about Mentor LeonardoSpectrum or Precision RTL, don't these tools synthesize to ASIC ?!

to synthesize for asic in leonardo spectrum, it has the provision for asic , but u need specific vendor libraries
