coplanar waveguide calculator

hi all,
I need the equations to calculate the width,the gab and the effective dielectric constant for CPW.

Best regards

Read this book (chapter 6):

coplanar waveguide equations

This book has almost all transmission lines you'll ever need,
including CPW, CPW with ground, assymmetric CPW etc.

"Transmission Line Design Handbook", by Brian C. Wadell
Publisher: Artech House Antennas and Propagation Library

I think the $133 price 'NEW' in amazon and $125 'USED' says it all... hope you can find it cheaper or from a library!

You may need some software / programming to calculate the elliptical
integrals (K,K'). Mathematica / Matlab I would recommend...

I know that it can be too late but if you still looking for the quasi-static equations I can send you a matlab file to calculate the characteristic parameters (effective dielectric constant + characteristic impedance) of CPWs.

In addition you need to use different formulas to calculate the gemetrical dimensions such as slot or strip widths. One of them is analysis formulas the second one is synthesis formulas. We have some CAD models for synthesis of CPWs if it is not too late I can send you all of these.

My e-mail is turkmen@erciyes.edu.tr

cpw design equations

Yes, these are good for novices. But first request is design equations So,
if you still looking for design eq.s;

for infinite ground planes.

WEN, C. P.: ‘Coplanar waveguide: A surface transmission line suitable for nonreciprocal gyromagnetic device applications’, IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory Techniques, 17, 1969, pp.1087-1090.

If you need to finite ground planes you can find a few pages of a book chapter here;

In addition Dear rottenegg,

You noted that "You may need some software / programming to calculate the elliptical integrals (K,K'). Mathematica / Matlab I would recommend... "

There are some approximations which you can use for elliptical integrals may be you are using these in Matlab but if anyone want to calculate he do not need to know any programming softwares.

please find an example for calculating the elliptical integrals;

k1u=sqrt(1-k1^2);

if k1>=0 & k1<=0.707
kk1=pi/log((2*(1+sqrt(k1u))/(1-sqrt(k1u))));
elseif k1>0.707 & k1<=1
kk1=log((2*(1+sqrt(k1)))/(1-sqrt(k1)))/pi;
end;

Where kk1 is K , k1u is K'
