Check the "Bi-directional Ports" in the second site (beyond logic). You need to enable bidirectional mode. But normal printers do not use them as inputs.

control port and data port are bi-directional

lpt port registers

First, your port must be configured as a bi-directional (PS/2) in BIOS setup program. Second, you must manipulate with the direction control bit (5) of control register:
0 - outputs enabled
1 - outputs disabled

Also, you may configure your port as ECP, or as ECP+EPP ( but not EPP only!).
In this case you must set an appropriate bit mask in 5,6,7 bits of ECR register (base address + 402h for standard port, may be vary for PCI LPTs).
000-SPP (standard)
001-PS/2 (bi0directional)
011-ECP
100-EPP
