Connecting power pins to core ring..

if i have a power IO pad with pins say.. vdd! and gnd!.. and i created a power core ring called VDD and GND.. how exactically do i get sroute to connect them? including the IO rings..

i have been assuming that i use globalNetConnect.. but every attempt i tried errors out or only partially connects the IO rings but never the core ring to the vdd!/gnd!..

anyone have suggestions?
