If you are looking for the history of the personal computer (instead of computers in general),
a good book is 'Fire in the Valley: The Making of the Personal Computer'.

A true classic and incredible story, tracing the design and birth of one of the world's first 32-bit minicomputers:

Tracy Kidder's, Soul of a New Machine

A must read! And by the way the book won the Pulitzer Prize in 1981.
