hi guys
can anybody compare the two script languages?
And which is more popular in digital ic design flow?

tcl synopsys

there is no direct comparision betw perl & tcl,

perl is used to find/replace/substitue any of the patterns in the file in the design flow.

tcl tool cmd lang, is used to control the tool, or can be used to pop out graphics window with radio buttons and other features for the better control of the tool.

eda tcl

but tcl can also used to find/replace/substitue any of the patterns in the file in the design flow. eg regexp, regsub can also do the work.

tcl vs perl

you should know both

perl for eda applications

but i think tcl can do all the works which perl can do.(in ic design flow)
so we don't need to know how to use perl

perl regsub comparison

but maybe perl is much easier

how does synopsys tcl regsub work?

Pearl is a file processor and TCL is a tool control language. There is no comparison

perl vs. tcl

Perl is more professional than TCL. And Perl can handle more things.
But TCL is more used in the EDA tools directly and Perl need run individually.

perl vs. tcl

There is nothing called more professional. Both of them are deviced to reach diffenent needs.

Re: perl vs. tcl

in my work.. perl is used in file processing.
But while working inside design tool... i can only use TCL. Synopsys, MAgma and Cadence will recognize TCL commands inside the tools.

So my answer, Its PERL outside, TCL inside.

If you can make these eda tools recognize your perl commands.. then let us know.

perl vs. tcl

For EDA, tcl is prefered !

Re: perl vs. tcl

For EDA applications we use TCL as it can handle all things very efficiently than perl

Re: perl vs. tcl

oh,Is it really? tcl is more pop?Let's grasp both of them,i think.
