Hello,

We are using NiCd cells ( 5 D cells in series = 6V) in an emergency lighting application.

When the battery voltage goes below 5.25V, (1.05V/cell) then the microcontroller stops further discharge of the NiCds, as further discharge below 1.05V could cause one of the NiCd cells to be reverse driven.

The engineer has pointed out to me that the microcontroller may fail, and then the NiCds may discharge to below 1.05V/cell, and become reverse driven.

The engineer has therefore proposed that the NiCd battery incorporates safety circuitry which prevents it discharging below 1.05V/cell.

Don't you think this is a bit unecessary and expensive?
