Hello All!

I inherited my car from my wife as I get her handme downs. :p Unfortunately she spills ALOT of coffee and none of the cigarette lighters can be used for power.

I want to take a cigarette lighter power extender, clip the end and then wire it to a circuit fuse TAP for the ignition fuse. In my somewhat limited knowledge of electronics I dont see why this wont work - please correct me.

Essentially I would take an item such as this:

https://www.amazon.com/Uriveusa-Cir...&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=circuit+fuse+tap&psc=1

and take anything like this

https://www.amazon.com/HiGoing-3-So...=8-20&keywords=cigarette+lighter+plug+adapter

- cut the cigarette light end off, and wire to the above to get myself power on ignition - no?

Thanks!!

Scott

I've done this on several vehicles. I'd suggest adding an inline
circuit breaker (you can find them, along with solderable sockets,
at auto parts stores) and perhaps even a relay, whose coil is
energized by IGN or maybe ACC so that you are not adding
more current burden to the key switch - current would come
from B+ via the relay contacts instead. there have been some
makes*models that got recalled for ignition switch fires or melt
and who knows whether yours just got its recall buried?

You can find pigtailed cig lighter sockets / splitters at almost
any place that sells car care products, including Wal-Mart.

Thank you.
And all this is above my paygrade :). I see this:
https://www.amazon.com/KUMEED-Inlin...1-spons&keywords=inline+circuit+breaker&psc=1
So you are talking about having this between the two things I note above?
And also, I believe the ignition is 10AMPs...? And above it only says 20 and above....sooo you see I am pretty clueless here, thanks!
