hai, i want to test 0v-115v-230v to 15v-0v-15v center tape transformer.actually i need 15v ac for power supply input.but i have 230v ac source only available.how i get 15v ac use of 230v ac input.pls help me.

Re: center tape tranformer testing

Centre tap full wave rectifier.gifUse the 230V to 15-0-15V step down transformer to get 15V AC.
This AC can be rectified and filtered using a full wave rectifier and a capacitor filter.

Are you telling that high voltage side has three terminals naming 0,115,230V and low voltage is15-0-15V?

In that case you can use the 0 and 123V terminals to input 230V AC.

Re: center tape tranformer testing

On primary side use 230V-0V terminal, middle is for 110V I suppose without picture, on secundar side use middle wire and one of other wire its 0V-15V. If you use 15V and 15V wires (15V-0-15V) you will get 30V AC.

without lable, how i identify primary and secondary side.how i know step up tranformer and step down tranformer.

The secondary should have thicker wire and lower ohmic losses than the primary.

1. Look manufacturer markings on transformer. Look model number and try to get datasheet.

2. Use ohm meter and measure resistance in windings, and link between them. Also based on resistance we can know what is primar what is secundar.

3. Primary usually have smaller diameter of wire, secundar bigger diameter of wires, but this depends from transformer specification.

4. You can try to give voltage on primar winding and measure AC voltage on secundar.

test DCR for primary and secondary windings, if DCR in the side is very higher than other side, the side is primary winding, you can identify from appearance, if the wire in the side is thinner than other side, the side is primary winding.

Without connecting the transformer in the circuit we can't say whether it is step up or step down. That's why I have used HV side and LV side terms.
