I design SMPS units going to KW power levels in which my tank capacitor ripple currents require a very critical selection.
The Low ESR selection criteria is insufficient .
How to measure the ripple current handling when surge pulses drawn at 100KHz are >40Amps ?

used a high rated ripple current probe connected to a DSO. You can see a spike in the oscilloscope when you subjected it in surge pulse, quite difficult to capture the produce total spike.

the spike will create when surge its introduce, thus the delta from begin and end of the spike + the ripple current produce by the circuit will be equal to the total ripple current produce in a manner of certain time.
