can you answer the question? (telephone networks)

calculate the time taken to dial a 12 digit number in a DTMF telephone when
(1)the exchange is capable of receiving DTMF signals and.
(2)the exchange can receive only pulse dialing .
compare the result with a rotatory telephone dialing.

This question is given in JNT university examination.

what i think is this question does not have correct description.

In case of pulse dialling the pulses are auto generatied by a traditional mechanical make and break contact of the line or the Dialling IC in modern phones. Still the pulsing time will vary between the two systems. as the delay in mechanical system will depend on the winding sping and the speed in the IC is set by the external and the oscillating components. After all there will be a certain time set by the exchange to detect an error is the delay between two pulses are different.
In tone mode, the tone will be generated almost instantly as the key is pressed and it depend on the persons operating capabilities to dial different number. For Eg, if I can dial a 12 digit number in 3-4 seconds, my "Gardener" will naturally take 12-15 seconds depending on his operating capabilities. Still the dialling speed will be faster if you alreday know the number.. For Eg : Your own number... We usually see/ get such logic less questions in Indian education system. Its all our fate my friend. Cheers

but how can we deal such questions, when we encountered them without choice?

What i have given is a purely practical answer that proves any answer to the said question can be re- cross questioned. In exam, they just require to write what it is given in some book as a definition. Do the same and ask your lecturer abt what to write and how?

Both DTMF and pulse dialing have a specified nominal timing (possibly slightly different according to national regulations). If no
additional information is given with the question, it's apparently assumed that you know these specifications and can put them into the
calculation. In so far, the question can be considered exactly phrased.
