can we use rs-232 port in the distance of 30 meter for sending data.

Re: RS-232 in 30 meter

Yes, no problem. I used it up to 1000m@9600. But it depends on your bautrate, of corse.

Re: RS-232 in 30 meter

I have tried RS232 upto 1000m at 300 bauds. Didn't face any problem.

If you want faster and reliable data transfer, use RS485/RS422.

RS-232 in 30 meter

I have seen in India people do in 122 metres so no problem mate

Re: RS-232 in 30 meter

can someone advise me the best way to improve the data quality. i have a project with uses RS232 connection around 30meters, but on the receiving side, the data always corrupted. Please advise how to reduce the noise in the data line. thanks in advance.

What is your baud rate?

Re: RS-232 in 30 meter

we r using in our project upto 100 m.with out faching no problem

Re: RS-232 in 30 meter

with cat5 cable can lan be made for internet within 120m dist.?

RS-232 in 30 meter

for the best stability i'll prefer use rs485 in long distance communication. For 30 meters i think it is still possible using the RS232

Re: RS-232 in 30 meter

Yes. I used RS-232 up to 100m at 19200.
But it is the best to use RS485 for the long distance.

RS-232 in 30 meter

Try using a coaxial cable. It would provide good shielding from industrial noise.

Re: RS-232 in 30 meter

it is odd that you have problem...

Please advice if you are connecting with computer, or embedded system... As for the latter one, there may have problem as the level is lower (TTL), especially if you are using high baudrate...

RS-232 in 30 meter

according to datasheet, rs 232 still can used in that distance...
