CAN --->to--->USB converter ?

Hello.
Looking for such adapter in the market, it is unclear to me the direction of the data. Can you tell me what to look in specifications to discern if it is CAN-to-USB , not USB-to-CAN ?
Or, Bidirectional ? (So to be sure it will work in the intended direction ) I see adapters priced ~$20 and ~$300 listed as search results; I do not believe they are for the same application.
How to recognize ?

* Industry?
* tinkering?
* lab?
* car (OBD)?

What speed?

Emulating a device?
Perform CAN requests?
Just tracing for debbugging?

Do you need software / drivers for the converter? For which OS? Or an API to write your own software?

For industry, not more than 1Mb/s, performing CAN requests as to transmit the obtained data via USB fed into a smart phone USB jack to be transmitted by telephone service provider into a remote location website to save the data in a server.
Compatible with the OS of any smart phone of-the-moment that happens to do the linking from its USB jack---> cloud
Any driver/software needed to make the proper converter and a smart phone work for the task.

Both adapters are USB devices that have to be configured and controlled by an USB host with respective software. In so far it's clearly USB-to-CAN.

PCAN-USB is a professional product, it comes with a powerfull monitor software and programming API.

SH-31A is the hardware implementation of an open-source project. If the available software serves your purpose, it's an economic solution.

Doubt that you find ready-to-use Android driver for any avaible USB-to-CAN adapter.
