I have about 300 of these fets available for my use.(IRFP 048N) I recently was given a bunch of linears for my use as an amateur radio operator. I can read the specifications and they appear very similar to the ERF7530 that they will replace. The only thing that has me puzzled is the inherent Zener Diode from drain to source. Will this adversely affect the FET's gain? Is this even useable in this type of application? I tried to up load page 1 of the data sheet but it didn't work.
Any help will be appreciated.

I think that you will find that the input capacity ( Cg-s) will make it unusable above 3 MHZ. The inbuilt zener is to clip overshoots when its working as a output device in an inverter. This is what it was designed for.

All Mosfets have the zener diode from drain to source as part of their construction. It rarely ever conducts.
The IRFP048 has a very high input capacitance and very wide range of input voltage vs output current. The ERF7530 comes in many versions where its sensitivity is pre-selected.
