Can PCB assembley factories buy 'used' (not full) reels of LEDs?

Hello,
We wish to get LED lamps made by our PCB assembly place.
We realise that they will usually buy full reels of the Cree XP-E LEDs.

Though is it possible for them to buy the LEDs in say half or quarter full reels?.....eg, they may be able to get them cheap and only half-full off ebay, or it may be stock that is left over from a big lighting manufacturer such as Tridonic.

What I am saying is, is it possible for the PCB assembler to buy non-full reels of LEDs, that are somebody else's left overs?

yes it is possible but if you import from other country then you have to face the custom duty & clearance

Also consider that larger LEDs are delivered in trays rather than reels so storage and transportation is more difficult. A reel normally has a peel-off protective film over it but trays have lids or are stackable but are not sealed to the environment in the same way. You may have to bake LEDs from opened containers before they can be safely soldered.

They can buy part reels too.

Thankyou kindly, this is the info I was seeking...and it is the info that I dread. If pcb assembly places can buy part reels then we may end up with many led lamps gettingbuilt up with leds from different batches.....and that is a nightmare because we use leds in parallel. (we need all the leds to be from the same Vf bin, and indeedn from the same batch)
