can I use 4 X 150uF, to have a ripple current of 4x400mArms?

Capacitor Ripple current

Hello,

I need a capacitor value of 600 uF that support 1500 mArms of ripple current.
I have a 150 uF capacitor with a ripple current rating of 400 mArms.

My question is: can I use 4 X 150 uF //, to have a ripple current rating of 4X 400 mArms = 1600 mArms.

If you connect them in parallel, then yes you can. In series, no.

Calculate pls with minimum 5 examplares, than electrolythics have a tolerance of min. +/- 10% & dont forget altering; the capacitances loss effect with time & temperature...
Temperature is interesting in the 150 uF internallly too.
You wish to drive your capacitors with maximal possible ripple current, these means such higher temperatur (inside maybe + 10--+20 degre of Celsius, & not from all producer specified) and do accelerating the lossing effect...
These means min 30-40% higher capacitance to design as nominell_if you need same performances in 10 Years too
