Can i get 12V DC if i directly rectify 230V mains.

Plz suggest

kind of rectifier

yes you can use any kind of rectifier
as you know there are a lot of rectifiers exist
And their categorized by methods that use
Switching or …
You can use switching because this method very use these days
You can find a lot of book and article for this technique on EDABOARD
Have nice days

Re: rectifier

Hi,

I don't have the exact circuit right here, but you can google "transformerless power supply". You'll find circuits that produce low voltages directly from the mains with the help of a couple of diodes and a few passives.

Re: rectifier

Theoretically you can, but I believe it is a better idea to use the power supply of the computer.

If you wanna design it your self, a half-bridge rectifier is used in computers.

Cheers

Re: rectifier

hi,
connect about four (105M/J)(250V) FARAD (equivalent to 1 micro fard) capacitor parallel with 57K resistor with each of the 4 parallel circuits in series with each other. i had practically tried this out to light a 12V bulb in my house.

just check it out..

Yeah I am looking for the reliable schema of this power supply, 230vac to 5vdc.

Re: rectifier

What is your current need?

If the current is small, about tens mA, so it is quite easy. But up to hundreds mA, or A, it is hard, and not practical.

From safety reason, this type of circuit is not used popularly.

Re: rectifier

there will be dabger of safety for such high voltage to low voltage conversion directly...

we have to some circuitry to convert 230 V ac to 12 V dc.... which will cost some money... instead , step down transformer can be added.. and can get 12V DC

rectifier

Tell us more what you need.

rectifier

hey guys,
I had done some research & tried some suggestion on the net only get 15mA@24V DC & it worked well.

Hope to get around 70~100mA anyone can help?

Regards
