Can embedded systems compete with FPGAs and DSP Processors?

A typical approach for implementing signal processing algorithms with high computational load is using FPGAs for very high speed pre-processing followed by DSP processors for post-processing. Are there any embedded systems for high speed signal processing that can be used instead of above mentioned architecture?

First of all, do you know what is an embedded system?
Embedded systems can be powered by a DSP processor, or a FPGA, thus not necessary restricted to a RISC microprocessor or a microcontroller.
And you did not specify what exactly do you want to compare between FPGA, DSP and MCU.
Production volume? Development cost? Power consumption? What application? Speed?
You have to be specific in what you want to compare.

Can embedded systems with RISC microprocessors lead to less development time and efforts versus FPGAs and DSPs in high speed signal processing? For example, can you address me an evaluation borad capable of computing 256-point FFT in 2µs with easy and fast software development?
