Hi everyone,

I`m stuck with this problem , I`m basically a programmer and not very much into RF, the problem is that I have to simulate gsm coverage over a map, I have had some success using azimuth, beam width(horizontal), down tilt and height, but now after looking at the results I believe that to attain accuracy I need to consider frequency, gain etc. I have goggled a lot and there is lot of information but nowhere can I find a relationship between coverage radius and frequency , power etc , is there a formula or do I need to do some conversion?

layman level help would be appreciated

regards,
Imran

You need to learn how to do a "Link Budget", and go from a required BER of
your system. Convert the Eb/No to SNR and see what's the "Theoretical"
distance/coverage that is possible.

Note this is more "Theoretical" and not real life. Now a days there are at least 3
different models for Characterizing wireless coverage, so you can turn to those
new methods/programs. But look at this link to get started.

Cheers
