CADSOFT Eagle DIP Library Help

Hi all, i just started to learn design PCB using Eagle.
Now i want to design a board for PIC 16F628a and i realize i cant found the 18pin DIP pattern.
Is it i need to create one myself? i cant found any available library online for 18pin DIP.

Hi,

I assume there is a PIC library with a compareable device. But if not:

Go to the board window
Enable comparable libraries with "use"
Print "add"
Search for DIP18 or DIL 18.
Then it gives you the results.

Then open the library window
Copy the package from the one library to the other

I just found it. It is inside the library.
Just that the searching criteria is a bit weird. I can't directly search by typing 16F628. I need to type microchip for the whole PIC list and search the model number.

I can't directly search by typing 16F628

If there is a device with name "16F628" then you shoukd find it.

But the EAGLE search is with wildcards.
You can search for "*16F6*" .
Then it finds all "PIC16F6..." as well as "16F6...".

But all the information is in the EAGLE help...

Ya, i can only get it with the star symbol. if i search directly, there is no result shown.

Sorry, now i have another problem which i cant move my IC symbol, no matter in schematic or PCB layout.
With the same cursor i can move my resistor but just IC cannot. May i know why?

sorry... regarding this issue, i realize i need to put my cursor on the "+" sign of the IC to move the IC.

Hi,

The "+" sign is the origin of the package /symbol.

In library window this is the (0/0) point.
If you want the origin to be in the center of a package you need to move the complete package, so that the (0/0) point is in the center of the package.

In schematic/board you need to "display" the origins layers to move the devices.
In board you can "fix" packages, to avoid accidental moving.

the "+" sign should be in the geometric centre for smd's. so that the pick and place machine knows the component location.

Seriously though, its very easy to make your own 18dip footys with eagle.

Just get the datasheet open.
Put a thru hole pad down with the right sizing
make sure its on (0,0)
Then change the grid to 2.54mm
And then copy paste the pad to each location
When you've done one row, change the grid
then copy the whole row to give the next row.
tHEN YOu need to find the centre of all that
so do this by just changing the grid and drawing constructs in the "docu" layer or whatever
Draw two so that there meeting point is the component centre.
