Cadence Virtuoso Error in Layout Merge

Hi,

I am new to Cadence


I created a basic CMOS inverter using Layout.

Now before extracting I was told to Merge the layout.

When I click Edit > Basic > Merge

I see that there is an error popping up.

It says that merge command was unsuccesful because all objects are in different shape.

How do I resolve this ?

Hi,
I hope before merge you did ctrl+A (select all layout data)

May be there is no scope for merge.
When same layer overlap with different polygon then merge will work.

Why do you want to merge your data? It is not necessary.

when do we use merge ?

When you have overlapping polygons of the same type, i.e. layer.

I'd think the error message explains it thoroughly.
