Hi,
I want to build a PC interface to control 3 stepper motors using stepper driver ICs.The length of the parallel port cable is a problem as it can't be more than 3 meters. Is there any way to ensure that i can increase cable length without affecting the operation of controller ?
Is it possible using USB interface or any other way ??
how about RC using parallel port?

Thanks in advance

hi coolchip
sure u cannot take long - even hi quality - LPT câbles
the simplest way is to take short cable from PC to your control card and to take long câble from control card to stepper motor :sm15:

of course u can build USB card, the easiest way with RAVAR-like module with virtual port for a RS232 control

I would say that depends on the driver side of your parallel port.

Maybe you could use a flatband cable where you use each second lead as a GND wire to seperate and shield the wires you are useing against each other.

Try it hope you are lucky using this ...

best regards

Also, you can build a repeater with 74HC244.
