Interfcing PC to Other systems thru serial /parallem port .....
Microcontroller to other peripherals like stepper motro ADC,DAc etc....

then u should know about protocols like serial port,parallel port, USB, PS2...etc.
how data is sent and recieved
its size
control signals
timing

u should find some interfacing stuff if u search here

if you are not to parallel port read this book for parallel port, then you can get beginning in parallel port interfacing
my experience in parallel port interfacing(get from yahoo gp-booksbybibin)

parallel port complete,serial port complete, usb complete are other book. For serial port interfacing you should know abt microcontrollers

First u study parallel port, the easy one u can do it in a day if you read tht book

Try the book : PC Interfacing by Pei An
(I have no ebook copy of this, but if you can find one please upload it)


This book is very essential for beginners of PC interfacing and it has some projects included, in fact I always read it in our library.
