How many bypass caps are needed for the 1.8V supply on a DDR2 SDRAM?

How would one calculate the capacitance and number of caps needed?

I have come across and worked with a circuit for DDRAM2 which has the following numbers of caps on its 1.8VDC line.

But i dont know how the values are arrived.
Me too interested in knowing that

100nF - 12Nos
33uF/16V - 6 Nos

Can't you just figure out how much current surge you can expect and what voltage tolerance you can have on the 1.8v.
I typically assume +-50mV.
