Broken LED Light in Pure Tempus-1 Digital Radio

Hi everyone,

I have a Pure Tempus-1 Digital Radio and the LED light has stopped working. It is very difficult to see the LCD display now, so I was wondering if someone could recommend me a very bright LED component, so I can put this next to the LCD display to light the screen back. I have measured the voltage in the broken LED and it is getting 4.5V.

An LED is fed a current with a voltage high enough to light the LED.
A white LED clamps its voltage to about 3.2V. Then if the 4.5V is fed through a 68 ohm series resistor the current in the LED is (4.5V - 3.2V)/68 ohms= 19.1mA.

Usually a very bright LED has a case that focusses and concentrates the light into a very narrow beam. Instead you probably want an LED with a wide viewing angle then its rated brightness is less than an LED with a narrow angle.

The wide angle LED looks like the ones in my cheap solar garden lights.
Since the radio uses only one LED then maybe it has a diffuser to spread out the light. Then nearly any white LED will work.
