Hello,

I'm trying to convert old PCB to newer version of Orcad.
The old PCB was not created with CIS version.
The issue I have is reference designators.
In the old design, there were blocks of capacitors that were numbered as:
A1-1, A1-2.....A1-16
B1-1, B1-2...B2-16 etc....
In the part manager this capacitor is considered as one packaged multiplied part component.
same issue is when I try to create BOM with the CIS version.
when I create BOM with the Orcad version, I can choose to use occurances instead of instances and it works fine, but then I can't use variants.
I want it to solve it in way that for future use it will work automatically and also to be conformed to the BRD file I have now, so I can't chnge the actual Ref. des in the schematic.

Thanks :)

hi ,
first you should use instances only for all design if you use occurances it might be problem (if you cut the symbol and paste part reference might be vary).
i think in your part may be heterogeneous so that only problem occurred.place the new capacitor from place part and update it in all the parts
it maybe help for you.

I tried to it but it didn't work.
This is very simple PCB, so I see no problem in using occurrences.
The only issue is how to "force" the CIS (part manager & BOM) to separate between the occurrences and don't treat the capacitors as multi-part package.
Does anyone has an idea?

Hi
please provide snapshot or copy the design in new design and attache it i try to help u

Hello,

I attached the pics.
1 of the schematic and the second of the part manager that shows wht happens when I try to access the part on the schematic.

Hi,
1.make the save as your design and then copy the A1-1 capacitor and paste it empty work area. (A1-1 to A1-16)
2.delete the existing capacitor as you mention in picture after that bring new capacitor in delete place
3.generate BOM now it will work
4.which orcad version r u using right now if you use 16.x it will work (i think so)
5.before doing this you need to check tool-->annotate-->update instance mode (it should be must )
6.in case it is in occurrences mode select accessories--->transfer occ.prop to instance (one complete this your extra property may be erased like Manufacturer, description, package )
