I want to learn a little about Bluetooth transceiver circuits, I have no experience to date.

I read a short blurb on the Arduino JY-MCU module. **broken link removed**

This device appears to act like a wireless UART.

1) Could I simply connect power and the Rx, Tx lines to say a PIC and then send and receive commands via Hyperterminal on a laptop that has bluetooth, or would I need a PC software driver to go between Hyperterminal and the PC's Bluetooth driver?

2) If there is a "better" module to experiment with, please suggest.

3) Software is not my strong point, so I would need something that is easy to use / interface to on the PC or IPOD side.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

no if you are connecting Bluetooth to your desktop then you need to use Bluetooth dongle for Bluetooth connectivity with your PC.And for that you need your device driver. And if you have laptop then turn on your Bluetooth in laptop and power Bluetooth module and search Bluetooth device you can see the Bluetooth device in search list.

Rx,Tx pin are for communicating with the microcontroller make connection like Rx(bluetooth) to Tx(PIC controller) and Tx(bluetooth) to Rx(PIC controller) and gnd to gnd pins.

Rf Bluetooth are good also you can try that
