I've a design on ARM9 core running Linux on it.
I need to implement Bluetooth handsfree feature in this design.

I don't want to use an USB Bluetooth dongle. I need to let it work "on-board"

I seen some single chip solutions but they are expensive. It should be as cheap as an usual BT headset.

What is you recommendation regarding this? Can ARM9 handle some of the BT stack and can I do it with just usign a BT transceiver?

Any application note and idea would be very helpful.

You can use your ARM9 to control a BT transceiver through UART interface. The protocol called HCI.

HCI is a standard in BT specification, you can find the command detail. But for certain BT transceiver solution, the manufacture have their own HCI command we dont know.
