Hi all,

this circuit seems almost retro this days, but no one seems to know how exactly it works.can any one help me understand more about ringing inverters.

On which factor does its frequency depends on ?

How can i design one for a specific power.

please help.

I'm not sure if it works exactly as shown. Most likely, it doesn't achieve good switching performance in the present form. But there are similar circuits performing better.

A good self oscillating inverter would work over a large load range with good efficiency. A BJT inverter would at best use current feedback to the base, and the frequency must not be conrolled by saturaton of the output transformer. A separate saturated base transformer is one of several options.

It might be, that the frequenyc of the present circuit is set by the capacitors (if they are large enough), but this won't work well over a large load range.

FvM,

I am right now living in a place with good solar and wind power,so i am charging a 12 v battery bulk of two 4.5 Ah batteries.

During night I am planning to use them to drive CFL tube of 9 W,for reading purposes.

I am not familiar with this circuits, can you please suggest me some links where i can understand more about design of such circuits.

thanks in advance.
