what is the difference between capacitor and a battery. what is the advantage of one over the other

A battery converts chemical energy into electrical energy. A capacitor stores electrical charge.

Batteries store energy in chemical bonding, and although it is not a general rule, have a larger volumetric capacity of storing charges, compared to capacitors. Capacitors, on the other hand, store energy "physically" and generally have a greater life cycle if compared to batteries.
