Hello,

I am working with Bartels Autoengineer PCB Design software. I am new in the field of PCB design.
I am designing a photonic transmitter, i have worked the schematic and the pcb layout with 2 layers. I would like to use the top layer for signal + power and layer 2 for ground.
My question is on copper fill workareas. Do I need to have copper pour for the entire layer 2 with net gnd and use via to connect all gnd in layer 1 with layer 2.
I have run the DRC and there are no errors.
Before proceeding to CAM processing, what else should I do with my layout editor?

hi,
1.single layer board routing will be done on one side.
2.double layer board routing will be done on both the side.(top layer, bottom layer)
3. four layer board-power,gnd,top,bottom.routing will be minimized with gnd & power tracks by pouring copper.


this is the usual method ,
copper pour can be filled for top,bottom.
try to use proper constraints for the gnd,power tracks.
u can use PCB tool kit to calculate the track width,distance etc.(for example dowload saturn a pcb tool kit)

or
u can go with 4 layer board.but the cast will be more when compare with 2 layer board

now decide what kind of layer u r going to choose.

I often do simple designs where all the routing is on the top layer, this then gives me a bottom layer with a contiguous unbroken ground plane... And yes you need to connect top layer GND copper pour to the bottom layer with stitching vias and plent of them.
