Hi, All:

I'll like to run Redhat 7.3 because it seems have less trouble in installing EDA tools. I found Fry's have this AMD XP2500+ ECS K7VTA3 (ver.6) combo for a very good price. (Cheaper than buying the CPU alone).
Had anyone install ReHat 7.3 straight from the cdrom (without kernel compiling, tweaking...) successfully?

I don't mind if the onboard usb, ethernet, sound,DMA66... were not supported. I only care if it can run RH7.3/Ic_5 with a plain old graphic card, 1G DDR ram, and 5200rpm 80G HD.

Please let me know if you have any positive/negative opinions about this combo... Any suggestion to other cheap motherboard is welcomed.

Thanks.

I have Mandrake 9.2 running on the K7VTA3. Mine is also a Fry's combo deal :) No problems running cadence verilog-xl, novas debussy, xilinx ise, etc. In fact, no problems at all. The onboard network, audio, and usb 2.0 are supported. I haven't tweaked or recompiled the kernel.

I think it's a great combo deal considering how inexpensive it is. The motherboard is essentially "free" :) I'm happy with it.

ECS isn't known for quality, but if you have problems with the board, Fry's has a 30 day return policy (however, only 15 days for CPU).
