I am looking at hardware recommendations for Ansys HFSS simulations. I have settled on a desktop workstation range CPU so enough for windows and a 12 core simulation solve using a single HPC pack as we have a server rack workstations for larger models. I have narrowed down CPU choices between 4-channel CPUs and 8-channel CPUs listed below:

8 Channel
Intel® Xeon® w5-3525 Processor
AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ PRO 7955WX
4 Channel
Intel® Xeon® w5-2465X Processor
AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 7960X

Would anyone know if 8-channel memory gives much of a speed-up when using only 12 solve cores?

Also Ansys have said that there is optimisation problems on Threadripper 7000 and the latest intel are quicker as they have better support. Has anyone have any first-hand experience with this slowdown on AMD?
