In terms of communication performance indicators alone, ZigBee technology is not weak compared to Bluetooth and WiFi, and even has more advantages in terms of comprehensive performance, power consumption, and mesh networking coverage. However, ZigBee technology is not as practical as WiFi and Bluetooth in the field of smart home, mainly related to the following points:

1. The WiFi module has occupied the entrance of the high-speed traffic of the family in a very early period. Almost every family will be equipped with one or more WiFi routers, so it is also a matter of chance to expand WiFi to smart homes.

2. Although the Bluetooth module has not emerged in the home furnishing industry early on, it has been bound to portable wearable devices in advance, and has mastered the network environment centered on smartphones and other portable smart devices, making it easy to use smart devices for direct short-distance control.

3. Compared with WiFi and Bluetooth, the situation of ZigBee module is very embarrassing, because it is indistinguishable from Bluetooth in terms of power consumption, and there is no way to match WiFi in terms of data transmission rate. To build a home network, you need to add a ZigBee The gateway increases the complexity of realizing smart home, so that customers can only stay away.

However, judging from the current development trend of IoT communication technology, Bluetooth and WiFi may not always be the main representatives of the smart home field. Because the current definition of smart home is not only in the home, but also in some smart office scenarios, such as the smart switch control of office building lighting and curtains, etc., in scenarios like office buildings, LPWAN (low power consumption Wide area network) technology shows its advantages. Because of the requirements for control such as smart lighting and smart curtains, the requirements for communication speed are usually not very high, but the requirements for communication through walls and signal coverage distance are very high in the office environment.

However, although LPWAN technology has the core advantages of wide coverage, low cost, and low power consumption, it also has many shortcomings. The existing LPWAN technology cannot fully meet the requirements of massive devices, high efficiency, low cost, and secure access of the Internet of Things in the future. Requirements, the market needs to develop new LPWAN technology to continue to develop.

It is almost impossible to find Zigbee modules nowadays. Working with zigbee modules was never really easy. Because in many areas, it needed special permission to use those modules outdoors. For IoT projects, I find ESP modules the most convenient now. This type of remote control and monitoring system can be easily developed with these:
