I think I may be going about what I'm trying to accomplish in the wrong way. I have a component with a rather large amount of pins (144 pin BGA), and would like to separate the pins so the schematic is more clean.

So, I made multiple schematic symbols and gave them all the same footprint -- the one for the component. But when I do the PCB, I have multiple copies of the component (which makes sense I guess).

How do I have multiple schematic symbols apply to ONE footprint, such that when I place the actual component on the PCB, all of the connections are where they should be?

It is called multi part component in Altium. You need to create the component in proper way in library, where each symbol is drawn as Part under one Component. Look at New Part command in schematic symbol editor. Then you need to have same Designator to all parts to get them all to one footprint.
