Access to MediaPlayer controls ?

Hi,

I want to build a project to control the MediaPlayer using my tv remote.
My problem that I don't know how can i access the MediaPlayer controls like (Volume+/-, Channel+/-,.......etc) ?
How can i make that ? I plan to design the control software in VB
