Hello All,

I want to build a 230VAC to 12VAC regulator. I am planning to use BT136 Traic... Can anybody help me with where to start from. How to calculate different values of components and How traic can be used to regulate AC output.

Nikhil

What kind of waveforms do you expect for the 12 VAC output voltage? Are you considering to use a transformer?

Hello FvM,

I just want to use traic to regulate the voltage to 12Vac and then can connect a Bridge to get DC voltage.....

I just need to formulae and basics to get it working
Can You help FVM

FvM give You good point for thinking, you should think about that.

What current is needed ?
Triac dissipation ?
Size of heatsink for triac ?
Additional circuit and PCB ?

Compared to iron transformer or switcher psu or transformeless design.

Buddy,

I am done with the current part...I will be using a Resistor along with cap to limit the current at the input end. But what i want to limit is the O/P voltage. So any Idea how to do that. Since triac is a phase control device, how can I use traic to control the output voltage.. I need to get a feedback from o/p to control this traic. So Can you suggest some points to be worked on...Rest leave it to me...

Regards

Nikhil

Hi Nikhil,

I do not doubt to your abilities to control current, I just want best to you and to save your time.

Also you can see existing EDABoard thread, maybe you will find something useful for you:

Hey Buddy,

I know that, you want me to be aware of the current as I am playing with 230VAC.. I understand your concern full and I am really thankful to this forum to get support of people like you.

Thanks for it .

Now to the point I have check the circuit. What I am really concern with this circuit is i need another 5V power supply to power on IC 555.. How to avoid this buddy....
