About VMware ShareFolder

mount hgfs

I have installed VWware in Windows XP. And, installed RedHat 8.0 in VWware.
I can read files from ShareFolder. But, I can't write in it to be shared by XP.
Does anyone know what's the problem?
The ShareFolder is mount on /mnt/hgfs/ShareFolder. I can't change the write permission of hgfs folder.

Hi!

First check the rights from windows side, the folder should be writeable by vmware.
After go into linux and look at the /etc/fstab e.g. cat /etc/fstab

The write permisson is regulated here.
Maybe you should change the similar line like this:
/dev/??? /mnt/hgfs/ShareFolder vfat umask=0022,user,users 0 0

The important is the "user" and "users". If you use your linux as root you should be able to write to windows folder, if you insert the two words afterward you will be able to write into the desired folder, as a normal user.

I don't see any /dev/??? /mnt/hgfs/SharedFolder .....
My /mnt directory contains, cdrom, floppy and, hgfs/SharedFolder, which is created automatically when I create ShareFolder in vmware.

Do you know what's the problem?
