About photodiode connection

photodiode connection

I am considering the connection structure about PIN-Photodiode & was confused to its output.
The image below is two connection ways of PD.
The output wire is connected to PD's profile(in top one)/PD's bottom(in bottom one).
Then,which connection method is correct?

They are indicating that the current flow will exist with light under two conditions. The first is with zero reverse bias on the diode. The second is with some reverse bias. This second way reduces the junction capacitance which can have an effect on the following circuit.

May be my expression above is not proper.
In Quantum effect,photons convert to electron-hole paris.Due to negative reverse bias,electrons downwards & holes upwords.

In the bottom image,electrons can march straight.I think this structure is correct.
In the top image,current path is bended.I believe this would harm electron's transfer.But my advisor insist that this structure is correct.
Can give more suggestion?

photodiode connections

I think that the wire connections being different is only an artistic thing. In real diodes the one surface plane is connected to a metal surface to reduce the resistance. (Connection is not made to the edge of the die. The edge is very rough.) ) This is very much like discrete transistors are mounted in a package.
