This is a modification used for old devices that don't have a standby mode.

Admission:
Some time ago, many tests were made by a device: VOLTRAFT Energy Logger 3500.
The results – all on “standby”:
  • SAT Philips 6010 – 18W!! (and 18.6W at work)
  • CD writer Pioneer PDR-05 – 10.5W
  • Chieftec 420W power supply – 8W (standby converted with a very low efficiency)
  • Technics SC-CH700, SC-CH900 tower amplifiers – 8W

The last two devices (tower amplifiers) will the modification be applied to.
The information in the documentation of the amplifiers says that it takes max 250W. After switching off the device, the transformer works further, powering a small processor and the VFD display showing the actual time.
The modification is to mount a standby supply to the amplifiers and switch off the display to save power and save the display from consuming.

Schema:
The schema shows what modifications were made on the Technics motherboard.

Realization:
The board was designed in Protel 99SE.

Mounting of the new module.

Summary:
Now, the Voltcraft shows only 0.3W on standby.
