a question on the magnitude detector

In the attached paper, in page 3, "4.RSSI circuit design", equation (3),it assert that the detector output voltage is the sum of the half of the input signal amplitude and the extra of the parenthesis. I have some puzzles, why it is half of the input signal amplitude? It is independent of the parameters of the differtial pair?


Can anyone help to explain it?
