I'm a beginner of DSP. I have a very simple question about FIR filter.
Assume there is Direct Form-I FIR filter with the following setup:
------------------------
Number of Tap: 7
Filter Coefficients are: (-0.239, 0.871, 1.239, 1.443, 1.239, 0.871, -0.239)
Input data word length: 8-bits
-----------------------------------
My question is:
1) what is the inner word length so that no overflows and underflows happen at any possible input (particularly, I don't understand about how to avoid underflows)?
2) what is the necessary output word length to preserve the accuracy of results?
Hope some guys can help me solve my problem. Thanks very much!
